Our Retirements

Bill had prostate cancer in 2004 and was operated and cleared of the cancer but he picked up a hopital bug called MRSA which attacked his lungs which were already weakened from a lifetime of heavy smoking.

After that he tried to go back to work but he couldn't so he retired in November, 2005.

We had a wonderful few years following, which you can read about below but I realised I had to retire to support Bill in his journey and did so in early 2010.

Five years later we are still going strong.... the best years of our life!

The Grey Nomads

With Bill's Super, we bought an old but quite luxurious caravan and off we went to travel Australia for twelve months.

We travelled south and spent some time with Bill's friend Grumpy, before he passed away. and also Greg and Carol.

Off we went on a slow tour of the Great Ocean Rd... an amazing three weeks where we lost our hard drive with all our photos.  After Adelaide we set out north towards Darwin. As we could see Coober Pedy in our sites, the car engine spluttered... I'd overcooked the engine. Three weeks in Coober Pedy was  mind blowing but VERY hot in March, 2011.  Very relaxing and all paid for by NRMA insurance as our car was sent to Adelaide for a new engine.

Again we went on to Alice Springs and did a AAT tour of Uluru and surrounds but by this time Bill's health was failing. Something was wrong. WE decided to head for the coast and follow the east sea shore home as quickly as we could to be near family.

During this time our caravan was totalled  but again we were covered by insurance. We packed what we could into the back of the car and set off for home down the coast, arriving home in June,  2010.

A wonderful experience which we wouldn't have missed for the world.  Just two weeks after we arrived home Bill was rushed to hospital and spent over a month there  clearing his first major lung infections.... and so the next journey began.

Bill's Worst Times

This photo says it all....  five months before Bill passed away.
