The Morris Family

In 1974 I changed from a Macallister to a Morris. Here is that story.

In February I went with my parents to a function at Western Suburbs Soccer Club in Five Dock, where my brother, Colin, played first grade football. There was dancing and presentations but half through the night a friend of mine who was, like me, in the Supporters' Club, brought over his mate to introduce him to me.

My eyes were on this tall good looking guy with the most amazing accent. Bill was Welsh and I was hooked. He drove me home that night and we had our first kiss. I  was 24 and he was 32 but that didn't matter.  I was teacher full time and he had just returned from working in the iron ore mines in South Australia and had just started driving for John Fletcher International.

I was living in a run down unit behind Burwood Shops in those days, not far from the station and Bill lived in a room in Petersham with a caretaker who was a lovely old lady. We saw more and more of each other and in May,  at the  Balmain Tennis Club over dinner, Bill proposed and I accepted. The next day we drove to Mum and Dad's place and Bill was SOOOOO nervous. Mum and I went shopping while he asked Dad if we could get married.

There was no need to wait... so we set the date for my next school holidays, August and moved into a flurry of organising. and this was the beginning of our life together.
